Design Considerations
-
The purpose of this addition and remodel was to reorient OP services for patron convenience and efficiency, separate OP from IP traffic flow, to aid in privacy for the inpatient, increase the size of departments where volume of service had outgrown the ability to adequately service their needs.  Further, the hospital desired to replace all patient rooms with modern, efficiently designed nursing units with adequate space in each room for acute care and obstetric care services.

As part of the architect’s services was to evaluate the projected service volumes of departments and make planning and design recommendations as to reorganization and departmental placements to accommodate the current and immediate future workloads.

The location also needed to allow for reasonable expansion if volume trends continue in growth.  The number of patients per nursing unit was evaluated by alternative designs created by the design team and the nursing staff.  We designed around current nurses call technology using nurse tracking and communication capabilities from one main nurses station where a unit secretary dictation and conference capabilities occur.

Mechanical and electrical systems were all planned and sized for this expansion project to include additional capacities as heat loads and requirements increase in the future.
